We the undersigned petition Tandridge District Council to Demolish Rose & Young Now. More details

Petition update from the council, 01 February 2013

Please be advised that following the closure of this petition, it will be presented to the Planning Committee on the 7th February 2012.

A verbal update will be given to Members by the Chief Planning Officer at this meeting. However, this is likely to take place in the "confidential" part of the meeting without the press and public being present. The legal basis for this approach is provided by paragraphs 6 & 7 of Part 1 of Schedule 12A of the Local Government Act 1972. A full report will then be presented to the Planning Committee on the 7th March and this report would include reference to the presented petition in formulating recommendations for the Committee to debate. Again, this it is likely to take place in a confidential part of the meeting. Any decisions arising from that meeting will be advised to the Petitioner and also made available in the Minutes of the Meeting.

More details from petition creator

1. A notice served by Tandridge DC gives the owner of the long-derelict Rose & Young site the alternatives of carrying out works or demolishing it by 13th January 2013. TDC can do this in default if the owner fails to do so.

2. The announcement that the owner's consultants will be holding an exhibition about the future of the site soon after the notice expires has raised concern about delaying tactics.

3. Information published on TDC's website outlines four options for the site produced by the owner's consultants . It appears that all of these will result in the existing building being demolished.. Carrying out works on the building does not, therefore, make sense and TDC should use its powers to demolish the building promptly if the owner has not done so by the time that its notice expires.
